Nearby Akumal features two grocery stores (which also sell beer and liquor, a cute shopping center, open market on Saturday, a cyber cafe with inexpensive internet and international phone access, and at least seven wonderful little restaurants - all within a hundred yards from the beach and a five minute walk from Mi Casa del Mar.

The most convenient food shopping is in Talum at the San Franciso Market at the main light (15 minute drive south). Talum also has great shopping. Playa del Carmen has the huge Chedraui Grocery store and extensive shopping (20 minute drive north).

Our favorite restaurants are: for breakfast, brunch - the Turtle Bay Bakery in Akumal; for Lunch - Beuno la Vida (“the good life”) on Half Moon Bay and Casa Cenote on Tankah Bay (fabulous snorkeling) and for Dinner – La Pescador (fish) in Akumal (amazing mini lobsters) and Oscar y Lalo on their own secluded beach near Soliman Bay.

We recommend a lunch at Casa Cenote after or followed by snorkeling at Tankah or an afternoon at Oscar y Lalo which with “beach beds”, sea kayaks, incredible snorkeling, followed by a beach side dinner (order the special for three if you are four…etc !) The full moon rising over the ocean when you are having dinner is a fabulous experience!

Children of all ages will love the water parks of Xel Ha (very close)and Excaret. Snorkeling, tubing down rivers, rope swinging, (short) cliff jumping into water, Dophin Discovery all awaits. We recommend driving yourself with a bag lunch and purchasing tickets on site (all to save money).
